We’re investing in our care for residents living with dementia

Bundaleer Aged Care residents living with memory support needs are benefitting from an investment in specialised training in dementia care.

Acting Manager, Marsha, says several members of the Care team recently attended the Navigating Changed Behaviour workshop delivered by Dementia Training Australia.

“The heart of our approach at Bundaleer is person-centred care, where every individual is seen, heard and valued for who they are,” says Marsha. “We recognise that each resident living with dementia has their own unique set of needs and preferences, and the course provided an opportunity to explore practical strategies to recognise and respond to behavioural changes in a way that supports the individual, helping them feel safe, respected and valued.”

“We’re investing in training to ensure our team continues to advance their skills in delivering compassionate care. We want them to be able to support residents with dignity and empathy through every stage of their journey,” she says.

The team has already begun applying the strategies learned.

Lusi-Ann, a Personal Care Worker, says “Maintaining residents’ wellbeing and comfort is our top priority. It’s incredibly rewarding to put the new strategies into practise and see the positive impact.”

Residents are involved in designing the lifestyle plan and enjoy choosing their favourite activities. When the weather is good, residents love a buggy ride around the sprawling grounds of Bundaleer. Being out in the sunshine amongst the beautiful greenery is a wonderful way to spend a day.
