Meet Doug and Katherine, Bundaleer Home Care’s compassionate Carers

Bundaleer’s dedicated Community Support Workers, Doug and Katherine, visit Home Care client, Mike, twice a day to provide essential care and support.

Doug, who has cared for Mike for over six years, says they work closely with Mike’s Mum, Penny to cater for his unique needs living with Sanfilippo Syndrome.

“Mike lets us know he likes us with hugs. It’s rewarding to know that we’re helping him live his best life with the care we provide each day. We’re a team with Penny, and we are always discussing ideas to improve his wellbeing. I enjoy the little moments together with Mike. He knows we’re there for him and will often look over to us for reassurance,” says Doug.

Penny says it’s clear the Doug and Katherine genuinely enjoy working with Mike. “It’s crucial to have Support Workers who can find ways to bond with Mike.

They know how to engage with him and help him enjoy things, and you can hear how happy he
is. It’s heartwarming to watch the interactions and see him laughing with them,” she says.

The team works together in a well- established rhythm to deliver care in way that suits Mike’s routine.

“We’ve developed a deep connection with this amazing family. I know that I’m making a difference when Mike greets me with a smile,” says Katherine.
