‘CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) ADVICE -RESTRICTED ACCESS- Wednesday April 22, 2020

We would like to provide you with an overview on the precautions we have taken to ensure the safety of our residents and employees during COVID-19.

On the 30th March 2020 we reviewed the visiting into our Residential Care Homes.  The decision was made to restrict access to the facilities to visitors with the aim to ensure the safety of our Residents.  At that stage the Covid - 19 was on an upward trend.

You may have seen or heard through the Media of Residents being locked in their rooms, I wish to reassure you that this is not the case in either of Bundaleer’s Care Homes.  We have had Residents leave the facilities in line with guide lines issued by the Government, which includes, out of the facility for no longer than one hour and using social distancing and hand hygiene. Their temperature taken on their return.

Residents who are able have also been taken for walks outside the home which they have enjoyed.  Residents still have their meals together in the dining rooms with strict disinfecting following meals.  Bundaleer has employed extra Activities Officers to assist in the welfare of our Residents.  The Registered Nurses undertake a complete assessment of each Residents spiritual and social welfare twice a week.  We have had a couple of residents entering their end of life cycle and families once having undertaken the screening process have been with their loved ones during this time.

There are many of our Residents and Families who are enjoying learning and using technology to stay in contact with loved ones, such as Skype and Zoom.  Extra iPads are being used to facilitate social interaction with help from our Staff.

Following comments by the Prime Minister of Australia, on the 21 April 2020 we are slowly opening our visiting program for our Residents, due to the low number of COVID cases;

The following outlines how you can visit your loved one from Monday 27th April, 2020

Visiting hours will be Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am – 3pm. Please contact the Clinical Support Officer, Cameron Street (02) 6585 2811 or Johnstone Street (02) 6586 9901, to book in a time between the hours of 9am -3pm Monday to Friday.  These hours ensure that the staff providing direct care are not taken away from their work to manage the screening process.

The screening process for entry into the Care Homes is firstly each resident can have 2 visitors a day however only one person at a time, and one hour at a time, your temperature will be taken, you will complete our questionnaire and FROM THE 1ST MAY, 2020  you will need a copy of your completed flu vaccination

As has already been the case, any Residents entering the end of life phase will have visiting rights outside of the above hours, however, the screening process will remain the same.

I want to reassure you we are reviewing these measures every 2 weeks, during this unprecedented time.  I want to also reassure you that our strict measures we have had in place has resulted in zero cases of COVID-19 at Bundaleer.

Thank you for helping us to achieve this.

If you have any questions or concerns relating to our COVID-19 precautionary measures for our Care Homes, please contact us on (02) 6585 2811 and ask to speak with the Care Manager or Clinical Support Officer of the respective Care Home.
